The GAVI Alliance The GAVI Alliance is a global health partnership representing immunisation stakeholders with a common goal to save children's lives and protect people's health by increasing access to immunisation in poor countries.
Civil society organisations (CSOs) play a crucial role in immunisation, and maternal, newborn and child health (MNCH). The role of CSOs is multi-faceted, and includes direct service provision, creating demand for immunisation and child health services, advocacy for increased access to immunisation, and playing a watchdog role to ensure that government and international actors are accountable to the people and communities they serve. Civil society is an important member of the GAVI Alliance and plays an active role in supporting the Alliance's mission.
The engagement of civil society with the GAVI Alliance is an evolutionary process which we seek to continue strengthening with your participation. The CSOs engaged in the GAVI Alliance are as diverse as the fabric of civil society itself, and presently include large international organisations, local non-governmental organisations, professional associations, and academic institutions. These CSOs are brought together by their common belief that immunisation, as a means of improving MNCH and reaching the Millennium Development Goals, should be accessible to all.
